From the Slopes of Gunung Jerai, a New Gas Gateway
I took this photograph from Gunung Jerai Resort, looking across Yan towards Pulau Bunting.
At first glance, it is simply a beautiful evening view. But the lights offshore tell another story, one of infrastructure, energy security and the changing gas landscape of northern Peninsular Malaysia.
Gas Malaysia and PETRONAS Gas are now studying an onshore lateral pipeline connection between the proposed Yan LNG regasification terminal and the Peninsular Gas Utilisation (PGU) system.

The proposed RGT Yan, located offshore west of Pulau Bunting, is envisaged as an FSRU with regasification capacity of up to 6 million tonnes per annum, with estimated development cost of RM2 to 3 billion.
The proposed link to PGU could turn Yan into a new entry point for gas supply into the northern region, supporting industrial growth, power generation and potentially improving the resilience and flexibility of Peninsular Malaysia’s gas system.
Standing here looking towards Pulau Bunting, it is fascinating to see how a landscape that appears so quiet today could become part of Malaysia’s next chapter in energy infrastructure.
From a view across Yan, we may be looking at the beginnings of a new energy gateway for the North.
